This is the kind of sermon that everyone else needs to hear. At least that's what a self righteous person is thinking. The truth is that self righteousness is something all Christians struggle with in some way. This sermon alerts us to the dangers of this problem taking root in our hearts.

We go to great lengths to protect our children from dangers. Cleaners and chemicals are kept out of their reach. We put safety guards on plug outlets. We get them immunized because of diseases. How much thought are we putting into protecting our children from the spiritual dangers in the world?

In Romans 7, Paul describes the state of a person outside of Jesus Christ. His words show how miserable he was trying to do right, but finding himself sinning. There was no answer for him until he found Jesus. Romans chapter 8 contains some realizations of a wretch that show the hope and confidence that are to be found in Jesus

This lesson emphasizes the need to take our commitment to Jesus serious and be willing to sacrifice for it. We must be willing to deny ourselves, take up the cross, and follow Him. Relationships must change, we have to get out of our own way, and we have to give our possessions up.
