Why Attend Every Assembly?
By Aaron Beard
Occasionally, someone will ask, "If the only assembly specifically commanded is the assembly on Sunday that meets for the Lord's Supper, why do I have to attend the others?" This question is faulty to begin with. One should not ask, "Why should I have to?", but "Why should I not?" One should attend because of the warning in Hebrews 10:25 - "...Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching." One should also attend because of the good it does others (Heb. 10:24). One should also be motivated to assemble each time because of his devotion to God (Psalms 42:1-2).
The attitude of "once is enough" is driven by a lack of spiritual motivation and selfishness. Let us mimic the attitude of David by saying, "I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go into the House of the Lord." (Psalms 122:1). Why not attend every service?
